Upnor started their campaign in fine fashion, winning 8, 2 against promoted Cliff Woods. Shane Jarrett lost just one leg in his maximum, and that was too Dave Lewis, 11,5, before winning in four. Peter Worthington found it more hard going, and was nearly undone by Mike Kemlo, just edging through 11,6 in the fifth. Peter Mortley and Dave both overcame Nick Boden for Cliff's two points, they nearly got a third but Upnor just scraped through in the doubles, 11,7 in the decider.
