Oldham Table Tennis League Report for week 2 – W/C 12th September 2016.
Division 1
Week two of the Oldham and District TTL saw the two Saddleworth teams play out a 5-5 draw with all 6 players contributing to a great match. Darren Lindley was unbeaten for the A team whilst Matty Evans won two for the B team and just lost 13-11 in the fifth game to Lindley. However, he made up for it by winning the doubles with Paul King 11-5 in the fifth game to secure the draw.
In another close match, Gary Crossley’s three wins was in vain for Uppermill A as visitors Unison A ran out 6-4 winners thanks to doubles from Steve Collins and Brian Hallsworth.
There were big wins for Hollinwood A over Honeywell B (10-0), Glodwick over Rosehill (9-1), Birley Moss over Coldhurst A (8-2) and Honeywell A over Werneth A (8-2)
Division 2
In another close match Honeywell C drew 5-5 with Coldhurst B with Simon King unbeaten for the visitors and supported by a brace from Harry Lewis. Tommy Ryan won two for Honeywell whilst Pete Fowler and newcomer Alan Sheppard won one each and combined to take the doubles and a share of the spoils.
Honeywell D had a good 6-4 win at Hyde A with Pete Buckley, Brian Higgins and Howard Travis all winning two with Geoff Ogden replying with a brace for Hyde.
It was the same score for Hyde B losing 6-4 at Hollinwood B for whom George Jones won all 3 and Kim Lee 2. Steve Hilton won 2 for Hyde.
Division 3
The youngsters of Unison D had another good win, this time a 7-3 victory over their C team with Sophie Newton and Josh Hudson unbeaten.
Uppermill B came away with a good 6-4 win at Honeywell E thanks to Mark Dunning’s unbeaten performance which included a 13-11 fifth game victory over Brian Hall and a 3-2 come back win over Howard Travis before clinching the win with a 4 set win in the doubles with Jack Dunning.
Hollinwood D beat Deaf Club B 6-4 thanks to George Marrow’s 3 and a brace from Terry Osman. Gordon Jennings 2 and Matt Gartside 1 replied for Deaf B.
Pollards A suffered a whitewash going down 10-0 at home to Gilders.
Division 4
Mark Dunning turned out again the following night to win two sets and help Uppermill C to a 7-3 win at Unison E. David Harthan was unbeaten for the “mill” whilst Mike O’Gara won two for Unison.
A treble from Mass Khan for Thornham CC was in vain at Hollinwood E who ran out 6-4 winners thanks to two wins each from Lauren Brassington and Barry Collier and one from Malcolm Pelham.
In yet another 6-4 result and in which all 6 players contributed, Grotton B won at Owls B thanks to a treble from Gary Owen. Gerald Lennox registered a brace for Owls.
Division 5
Tame Valley and Pollards B drew 5-5 with Lee Godfrey unbeaten for Pollards and supported by a brace from Walter Marcinkiw. Chris Graville won two for the “Valley” with one each from Fraser and Adrian Dallas who then combined to take the doubles 11-9 in the fifth and rescue a draw.
Denshaw A had a good 9-1 win over Owls C with Andrew Tyas and Dave Renton unbeaten and a brace from Daniel Bretten. John Tanner prevented the whitewash.
Hollinwood H visited Coldhurst D and had a resounding 10-0 win
