Dawlish Aces’ first win of the season lifts them off the bottom of the first division; they overcame Brixham Gulls 8-2 with Yannick Tushingham leading the way with a maximum. Josh Millman picked up the Gulls 2 sets. Batmen found their form, demolishing last year’s Division 2 champions Brixham Trawlers 10-0: Dennis & Shaun Gibbs not dropping a game all night for the Batmen.
The top two in the second division both had comfortable wins over the bottom two clubs, Taverners beating bottom side Dawlish Drifters 10-0 and second placed Torbay Academy II defeating Torre 21up 9-1. Torre’s Peter Heathcote defeated Sam Perkins preventing the whitewash. Another Dave Atkin maximum helped his Marldon side to a narrow 6-4 victory in a close affair with Brixham Swallows.
An epic encounter between challengers near the top of Division 3 saw Torbay Academy III win in Brixham against the Rebels. With the Rebels’ Richard Johns and the Academy’s Jordan Hastie going in to the match undefeated, something had to give, with Richard eventually winning 11-8 in the fifth game. With the match score at 1-1, 2-2, 3-3 & 4-4 it looked odds on for a draw but thanks to a strong finish from the Academy’s Klara Cincalova, defeating Steve Munns in the final singles, and then teaming up with Jordan Hastie to take the doubles, the match ended 6-4. Dawlish Dynamos picked up their 2nd win of the season, defeating Brixham Panthers 8-2, Dynamos’ Andy Beck undefeated on the night.
