With last year’s first Division Champions not starting their programme until next week, it was left to the rest to put a marker down for the new season. Torbay Table Tennis Academy'1', last season’s runners-up, started with a fairly comfortable win over Brixham Trawlers 7-3. However the Academy's 2nd team didn't fare as well in their first match in the top division, going down 9-1 to the ever-consistent Halwell side, Sam Perkins winning the set which prevented the whitewash. An interesting encounter between the two Newton Abbot teams finished with N A Batmen coming from 3-4 down to take the match 6-4, with Kelvin Cheung winning all 3 for the N A Buzzards.

The 2nd Division match of the day was a tense encounter between last year’s champions, Taverners and N A Eagles which finished at 5-5. The Battlers just overcame Torbay Table Tennis Academy '3' 6-4 with Peter Nicholson winning all 3 for the Battlers. Terry Stead & Tom Haggerty were in fine form for Brixham Imports who saw off Marldon Tykes 8-2.

The 3rd Division saw favourites Denbury Tykes start their campaign with an impressive 10-0 win over Dawlish Drifters, while Dawlish's other team in the Division had a convincing 8-2 win at Brixham against their Swifts side.

In the 4th Division, Brixham Dolphins, who struggled all last season, started with a fine win, beating newcomers N A Owls 9-1, Ross Embury for the Owls preventing the whitewash. N A Falcons fared better, winning 7-3, but only at the expense of stablemates N A Kestrels, with Lee Passmore getting a maximum for the Falcons. Torre Nadoes started well with a maximum for league sponsor Robert Excell who was well supported by Andrew Davies in Torre's 7-3 victory over newcomers to the league, Torbay Table Tennis Academy '5'.
