Staging such an event is testament to the exceptional hard work in table tennis that has been going on throughout Plymouth and the surrounding area over the past two years. Many people are unaware that Plymouth is one of only four prestigious Table Tennis England Talent Development Centres in the country which commenced in January 2014. The program lead is the former regional coach Paul Whiting who has devoted the past 12 months to a squad of 20 local players aged between 9 and 16 years old from Plymouth and the surrounding areas. This has included taking squads of players all around the United

Kingdom playing in both team and individual competition. The standard of players within the Plymouth Talent Squad is such that many of them are now ranked in the top 5 players of their respective age groups in the region. Many are ranked in the top 50 of their age groups in the country.

Over the past two years since JOOLA Plymouth Table tennis built its fantastic new facility at Eggbuckland Community College the club has embarked on a city wide grass roots table tennis programme.

Sponsorship from the Devonport Royal Dockyard Employees Trust enabled the club to commence an ambitious grass root development program. This has enabled Primary Schools across the city to hold table tennis taster days with over 4,000 children trying the sport for the first time. The demand has been so great that demand that JOOLA Plymouth Table Tennis Club have set up after school satellite clubs for any children to attend at Coombe Dean School, Plymstock School, Eggbuckland Community College &  St Boniface College, which have been running for the past year and such is the demand for more table tennis in the city, new after school clubs are commencing soon at Stoke Damerel College & Plymouth School of Creative Arts.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody at Eggbuckland Community College, Table Tennis England, The Devonport Royal Dockyard Employees Trust, JOOLA Plymouth Table Tennis and all the coaches, members and families of all the local table tennis clubs and leagues for playing their part in the success of the Plymouth Table Tennis Talent Development Centre which has a growing reputation of becoming one of the best table tennis development projects in the country.
