SOUTH DEVON & TORBAY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE.

Denbury Imports clinched the First Division title with a 7-3 victory over Torbay Academy 2. The Denbury side, with a large squad of players, have won all 13 fixtures this season, selecting their top players when playing top opponents. Another strong side of Paul Laverty, Dawid Gawron & Naomi Jackson took them to their latest victory although they could not stop the power of Kris Piwowar, who was taken close by Laverty, but maintained his 100% record for the season. Halwell picked up useful points near the bottom of the table, narrowly going down 6-4 to Brixham Gulls, despite the best efforts of Dave Wadling, and then picking up their 2^nd win of the season, beating Battlers 8-2, with Mick Atkinson this time unbeaten for Halwell. Battlers, without a win all season, are now destined to return to the Second Division.

Marldon Tykes’ team of Steve Metcalfe, Kevin Ayling, Chris Garner and Dave Friend confirmed themselves champions of the Third Division following a 7-3 victory over Brixham Diamonds, and a subsequent 8-2 win over Dawlish Diamonds. Dawlish’s Bruce Freeman upset the formbook with two good wins, but Chris Garner’s victory over Freeman confirmed the title.  The Tykes have won all 16 games this season and have clinched the title with two games still to play. NA Hawks move up into 2^nd place following an 8-2 win over Torre Bats, as Brixham Dolphins, with a Nick Shipley maximum, were held to a draw by clubmates the Diamonds. Two 9-1 wins by NA Falcons over the Dawlish sides moves them well away from the danger area, and Derek Stratton & Lee Passmore were unbeaten in both matches for the Falcons.  A Ben Hoare maximum helped his Torbay Academy 4 side defeat Hasbeens 8-2.

The Second Division has been close all along. NA Buzzards, having a week off, only require 5 points from their last two matches to take the title.  Rivals for the title Brixham Imports & Brixham Pirates kept the pressure on with victories over Taverners 6-4, and Torbay Academy 3, 7-3 respectively.  A Dave Davies maximum helped his Dawlish Aces side to a narrow 6-4 win over Denbury Tykes thus confirming the Tykes’ relegation back to Division 3.

Fourth  Division champions, Torbay Academy 6, had a comfortable 9-1 win over NA Owls. NA Kites, still with an outside chance of catching clubmates the Kestrels for the runners-up spot, had an 8-2 win over Brixham Swifts, and Brian Entwistle took his first maximum of the season for the Kites. Torbay Academy 5 had a convincing 9-1 win over Brixham Panthers and Torre Tigers whitewashed stablemates Pure Torre.

Torbay Academy 6 marched into the Challenge Cup Final with a convincing 5-0 victory over NA Kestrels. The youngsters, Herbie Sage, Jakub Piwowar and Brandon Lewis, still unbeaten this season, never looked in any trouble, just dropping a couple of games.  They will face Clubmates Torbay Academy 2 in the Challenge Cup Final.
