SOUTH DEVON & TORBAY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE.

With the Singles Super League taking main stage there was just a handful of League fixtures this week.

 NA Buzzards extended their lead at the top of the Second Division despite the best efforts of an inspired Helen Glover who helped Marldon to a 4-3 lead, before the Buzzards fought back to take the match 6-4

In the Third Division, Marldon Tykes are sitting pretty at the top watching the fight for the runners-up spot. Second- placed Brixham Diamonds suffered a 3-7 defeat to NA Hawks, who had a good week, securing a whitewash victory over bottom side Dawlish Drifters, before overhauling the Diamonds to claim the runners-up spot. Mike Coxhead took maximums in both matches. New signing Ben Swettenham also impressed for the Hawks.  Brixham Dolphins, helped by another Nick Shipley maximum, saw off a strong challenge from Torre Bats winning 6-4, and with their games in hand will be eyeing up the runners-up position.

Battlers, struggling at the foot of the First Division, were whitewashed by Torbay Academy 2 - Kris Piwowar’s side dropping just 2 games as the dominant Academy side won 9 of the 10 sets 3-0. Dan Webster-Hall stepped up from the Second Division and with Daniel Barnett provided the support for Piwowar.

The battle between the 2 Brixham sides in the Fourth Division was won by the Swifts who beat Panthers 9-1

Torbay Academy are again dominating in the Cup competitions.  Current holders of both Cup competitions Torbay Academy 1, had to fight all the way to reach the Dyment Doubles semi-finals. NA Buzzards took an early 2-0 lead but lost the next 3 and could not get in front again. At 4-4, the unbeaten Buzzards pair of Mike Dummett & Ed Crawford lost out to the unbeaten Academy pair of Simon Furgol & Greg Wojtowicz, who sent the Academy 1 side through to face NA Owls in the semi-final.  The other semi-final is between Torbay Academy 6 who easily defeated NA Eagles 5-0, and Torbay Academy 2.
