JULIE DUNDRIDGE

Both Richard Fitzgerald and Martin Dilkes have brought to my attention recently the sad news that Julie Dundridge, one of our former playing members, “passed away” on 28th July at the age of 67.

Julie was a familiar face on the table tennis “circuit” although she had not played in the league for several years.

I am sure that those members who played with or against Julie will have their own memories, in particular Martin and Andrew Hooper, who with Julie were part of the Full of Beans team the last team she played for in the South Devon and Torbay TTL. 

My own memories of Julie are of a cheerful person, full of energy and good conversation.

On the table tennis table though, Julie had a steely determination to win highlighted by an attacking style of play especially with her consistent and fluent forehand. She must have been a very useful player in her younger days!

I enjoyed playing Julie but each time I played her I had to rein back from trying to beat her at her own attacking game and resorted back to defence!

I last saw Julie at a fund raising event over 3 years ago at Paignton Community and Sports Academy.

Alongside Martin, Andrew and Julie, l played in a social sports competition representing the Care Trust against other organisations. Called the 2013 Olympic Challenge, our Care Trust team won the Table Tennis which was good news!

I will remember Julie and these table tennis memories……….
