Press Report 25th Feb

The top 4 sides in the First Division all had fairly comfortable wins over the bottom 4.  Leaders, Torbay Academy 1 and runners-up, Brixham Sharks, both had whitewash victories over Brixham Pirates and Torbay Academy 2. Brixham Gulls’ Chris Dunn singles win over Giles Tushingham prevented NA Batmen from also gaining a whitewash. Kevin Nicholls, with another fine maximum for NA Buzzards, helped them to a 7-3 victory over Halwell, whose Dave Wadling fought hard for his 2 singles wins.

The 2nd Division is really tight with the top four still in the mix for the title, as Brixham Seals with Bob Parkins again going well, defeated Taverners 7-3 to go top. Taverners, having a busy time, also went down 7-3 to title contenders, Torbay Academy 3, with an excellent maximum from Taverners’ Martin Dilkes in defeat.  Alan Maynard was in fine form for his Brixham Trawlers’ side who defeated Marldon 8-2, Helen Glover collecting the 2 points for Marldon.

In contrast to the 2nd Division, the 3rd Division winners and runners-up are pretty much sorted! Both the Tykes sides secured 10-0 victories, leaders Denbury won over Torbay Academy 5, whilst their colleagues from Marldon beat NA Kestrels.  Denbury Tykes lead the division by 22 points, and Marldon Tykes in the runners-up spot have a 36 point gap over 3rd placed Dawlish Diamonds. The top two battle it out this week, and if Denbury come out on top there will be little Marldon can do to halt their march to the title.   A Bruce Freeman maximum helped Dawlish Diamonds to a share of the points against Brixham Dolphins, and Hasbeens’ Mike Coxhead was unbeaten as they defeated Torre Tigers 7-3.
