ALBANY FLORISTS-SPONSORED SOUTH DEVON & TORBAY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE

In the First Division, leaders, Torbay Academy 1, suffered their first defeat of the season going down 7-3 to Brixham Sharks, with Rory Harries and Adam Shipway taking maximums for the Sharks. The Sharks move up to the runners-up spot but remain 16 points behind the leaders. NA Batmen recorded a 9-1 win over Brixham Pirates, Ben Deakin securing the Pirates point with a fine win over Mike Kiff. Batmen’s Dennis Gibbs and Naomi Jackson were unbeaten.  Torbay Academy 2, with Lenard Hernandez and Daniel Barnett going well, had a fine 7-3 victory over Halwell.

The Second Division remains as tight as ever, with Brixham Seals’ Stuart Shipley, Bob Parkins and Philip Avery now leading the pack, thanks to a whitewash victory over NA Hawks. A fine all-round team performance from NA Eagles saw them to a 7-3 victory over Brixham Trawlers, which lifts them up to second place.  Helen Glover and Dave Atkin maximums helped Marldon to an 8-2 victory over Torbay Academy 4.

The Tykes go marching on in the Third Division, with both the Denbury and Marldon Tykes achieving whitewash victories over the Hasbeens and Torre Tigers respectively. Third-placed Brixham Dolphins were surprised by struggling Torbay Academy 5; the Academy’s Harrison Grainger, Craig Collins and Elsa Perry turned the tables upside down, finding their form and defeating the Dolphins 10-0.  Dawlish Diamonds took over the 3rd place spot by defeating NA Kestrels 7-3, with maximums from Bruce Freeman and Martin Charlesworth.

There was another surprising result in the Fourth Division as the leaders, Torbay Academy 7, suffered a 6-4 home defeat by a Sam Hiles-inspired NA Ospreys. Torbay Academy 6, with Matt Frettsome again leading the way, narrowly defeated Torres R Us 6-4.  NA Owls, still in contention towards the top, found themselves 3-0 down to club mates the Kites, but the Bayliss family rallied around to take the next seven sets and a 7-3 victory.  In an all-Dawlish clash, the Drifters defeated the Dodgers 9-1, with Tony Bussell and Don Beesley unbeaten for the Drifters.  A Pete Sercombe maximum helped the NA Vultures to a 6-4 victory over Brixham Swifts.
