ALBANY FLORISTS-SPONSORED SOUTH DEVON & TORBAY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE

It was Cup week in the South Devon & Torbay Table Tennis League with matches in both the Handicap Cup competitions, the Dyment Doubles and the Challenge Singles cup.

Halwell, struggling in the First Division, had wins in both competitions, defeating Torre Tigers in the doubles 5-2, and Denbury Tykes 5-1 in the Singles Cup.  The Tykes from Denbury had a mixed week, bouncing back from their defeat at Halwell in the Singles with a fine 5-0 victory over NA Eagles in the Doubles.  The Eagles also had a mixed week, as they had dismissed the Brixham Pirates 5-1 earlier in the week to progress in the Singles Cup.

Also in the Singles Cup, NA Buzzards returned from Bishopsteignton with a hard fought 5-2 victory over Taverners.  Brixham Trawlers were looking in good form as they brushed aside the challenge from Torbay Academy 3, with a whitewash win.

Torbay Academy 7, current leaders of the 4th Division, were in impressive form as they eased past NA Hawks 5-0 in the Doubles competition.  The closest tie of the round was between two Torbay Academy teams, as the Academy’s 2nd team narrowly defeated their 6th team 5-4.

Although it was Cup week, several League matches also took place, the busiest team being NA Buzzards, who had 3 outings in the League, and found the going tough!  Brixham Sharks, with a fine maximum from Rory Harries, defeated the Buzzards 7-3, and it was a similar scoreline two days later as the Buzzards lost out to the leaders Torbay Academy 1. Kris Piwowar was back in excellent form for the Academy, and was supported well by both Patrik Cincala and, making his First Division debut, young Jakub Piwowar.  The Buzzards’ final encounter was a 7-3 victory over the Academy 2 side, with Kevin Nicholls taking a fine maximum for the Newton Abbot team.

Catching up with those fixtures hit by the snow, Brixham Dolphins narrowly defeated NA Kestrels 6-4 in a 3rd Division encounter.

In the 4th Division, Torres R Us had a good win at Newton Abbot over the Owls, thanks to a fine maximum from Andrew Connor.  Sam Hiles was another maximum man, as a young NA Ospreys side defeated Brixham Swifts 7-3.  NA Kites, with Richard Salt unbeaten, defeated Dawlish Dodgers 8-2.
