PRESS REPORT – Sunday 7^th Apr

The table tennis season is drawing to a close with the last full week of league fixtures.  First Division champions for the third season in a row are Torbay Academy 1, led by Kris Piwowar. The Academy’s final match was a 6-4 win over Halwell, Patrik Cincala being unbeaten on the night.  Runners-up, NA Batmen, had a 7-3 win over the Brixham Sharks, for whom Adam Shipway secured a maximum.  Brixham Gulls required a win in their last match to lift them off the foot of the table but with Lauren Loosemore in excellent form for NA Condors they couldn’t manage it, losing 6-4.

It’s as you were in the second division with the Torbay Academy again heading off the challenge from Newton Abbot. Torbay Academy 2’s 8-2 victory over their closest challengers NA Eagles confirming their second division title. Warren Ngai with his 18^th maximum of the season for the Academy. Earlier in the week the title had been decided when Brixham Pirates held the Eagles to a 5-5 draw while the Academy 2 side defeated Taverners 8-2.  NA Falcons climbed a place up to fourth following a 6-4 win over Marldon, a Fred Burdett maximum doing the damage for the Falcons.

Torbay Academy 3’s 9-1 victory over NA Hawks ensured they took the third division crown. Ben Hoare and Matt Cooper again with maximums for the Academy.  NA Kestrels had a 6-4 win against Torbay Academy 4 and there was a rare win for Bottom side Brixham Dolphins who defeated Dawlish Diamonds 7-3.

Alan Tyrrell, with another maximum for the fourth division champions Hasbeens, helped his side to a 7-3 win over Torbay Academy 6.  Josh Redfern was unbeaten as his NA Kites side defeated Dawlish Drifters 7-3. Torre Titans’ Chris Harper went through the season unbeaten at singles, his latest maximum against clubmates the Panthers in an 8-2 win, Bill Keywood also with a maximum for the Titans.  A Rowan Bayliss maximum was not enough for NA Owls as they lost 6-4 to Torre Tigers.

Another player to go through the season unbeaten was young Kacper Piwowar however he didn’t play in Torbay Academy 7s last match of the season. The 5^th division champions, Academy 7, were held to a draw by NA Merlins, Nick Turner with a maximum for the Academy.  NA Ospreys, runners-up, had a comfortable 9-1 win over Brixham Swifts, Henry Greet and Rob Ferguson were unbeaten for the Ospreys. A Joseph Edwards maximum helped his busy  Brixham Swifts side defeat clubmates the Seals 6-4. NA Vulture’s Andy Guy was undefeated as the Vultures defeated Dawlish Delights 8-2

Torbay Academy 1 reached the final of the Challenge Cup with a 389-295 victory over Halwell.

Wins for both NA Buzzards, 351-342 over Torre Tigers, and Torbay Academy 1, 381-312 over their 2^nd team, mean the two sides meet in the Dyment Doubles Shield semi-final.
