PRESS REPORT – Sunday 13^th Jan

Match of the week was a superb encounter between the top two Newton Abbot sides, with the Batmen just edging out the Buzzards 6-4. There were several top-class match ups, with the pick probably being Naomi Jackson’s 12-10 victory in the fifth game over Herbie Sage. Man of the match Shaun Gibbs took charge, with the scores level at 4-4, to see the Batmen home.  Dave Wadling’s efforts were in vain as his maximum for Halwell were the only wins in their 7-3 defeat by Brixham Gulls.

Second Division leaders NA Eagles had a fine 9-1 win over Marldon, which on the face of it looked pretty one sided, when in fact the score line really flattered the Eagles, as 5 sets went close in the 5^th game. Andy Tyrrell and Jim McIvor took maximums for the Eagles.  Warren Ngai picked up his 9^th maximum of the season as Torbay Academy 2 kept the pressure on the leaders with a 7-3 win over NA Falcons. Ian Saxby was unbeaten as his Brixham Trawlers drew 5-5 with the Taverners.

A Chris Garner maximum helped the Marldon Tykes to the top of the Third Division as they defeated Dawlish Diamonds 8-2. Torbay Academy 3 drop to second, despite beating their 5^th team 6-4. NA Hawks stay in the hunt at the top, following a 6-4 win over club colleagues the Kestrels, Pete Sercombe with a maximum for the Hawks.  Craig Collins and Ed Damanskas were unbeaten as Torbay Academy 4 defeated bottom side Brixham Dolphins 9-1.

The Hasbeens extend their lead at the top of the Fourth Division with a 9-1 win over Dawlish Drifters, as Mike Coxhead and Alan Tyrrell were undefeated for the Hasbeens. Another Chris Harper maximum helped second-placed Torre Titans defeat club mates the Tigers 7-3.  In an all-Newton Abbot clash, the Owls just edged it 6-4 over the Kites, thanks to a maximum from Rowan Bayliss. Torbay Academy 6’s Man of the match, Alessandro Mitranescu, helped his team to a 7-3 win over Torre Panthers.

Torbay Academy 7 are still going well at the top of the 5^th Division, with a Nick Turner maximum helping his team to a 7-3 win over Dawlish Delights. Both Ian Richards and Paul Beckley were unbeaten as Brixham Seals defeated NA Merlins 9-1.  Kevin Payne and Andy Guy maximums saw NA Vultures climb up the table as they defeated club mates the Ospreys 8-2.
