PRESS REPORT – Sunday 19th Jan

With leaders NA Batmen having a week off, clubmates NA Buzzards took the opportunity to draw level on points at the top following their whitewash victory over NA Eagles. Sonja Ryland selected Herbie Sage and Kevin Nicholls to play alongside her in this one and they were never in any trouble throughout the 10-0 victory.  Torbay Academy 1 will not let their grasp on the title go easily and kept up their challenge also winning 10-0, Esme Suarez, Warren Ngai and Lenard Hernandez dominant over Brixham Pirates.  Brixham Sharks and Halwell played out a 5-5 draw, the Sharks’ Gordon Holmes with a maximum.

Marldon have taken over at the top of the second division following two wins in the week.  Previously unbeaten Denbury Tykes were their first victims with Marldon winning 6-4, despite a fine maximum from the Tykes’ Paul Hine. NA Kestrels were Marldon’s second conquest, where they dropped just one point, Ed Thompson and Helen Glover with maximums in the 9-1 victory which took them to the top of the second division table. It was not a good week for Denbury Tykes, having already lost their unbeaten record to Marldon, they succumbed again, this time to Brixham Trawlers, going down 8-2, Nick Williamson and Ian Saxby with maximums for the Trawlers.  Marldon Tykes picked up just their second win of the season thanks to a Steve Tyler maximum, defeating NA Hawks 6-4.  A Kacper Piwowar maximum inspired the Torbay Academy 3 side to defeat the Academy’s second team 7-3.

Third division leaders Torre Titans had a comfortable 8-2 victory over NA Kites thanks to maximums from Tony Nguyen and Christopher Harper. NA Owls closed to within just a point of the leaders with a 9-1 win over Brixham Seals, Josh Redfern with a man of the match performance for the Owls. There was an excellent close encounter between the Hasbeens and Torre Panthers, which the Hasbeens just sneaked 6-4, Steve Russell’s excellent victory over Alan Tyrrell worth noting! Another Dave Crowley maximum helped his Torbay Academy 5 team defeat their clubmates Academy 4, 7-3.  Andrew Davies and Rob Ferguson were unbeaten as NA Harriers defeated Brixham Dolphins 9-1.

Dawlish Diamonds 9-1 defeat of NA Merlins saw a maximum from 86 year old Frank Frain, his first for many years, a brilliant effort by a great man with hopefully more to come as he gains further experience! Peter Curtis also with a maximum for the Diamonds.  Leaders Torbay Academy 6 beat their 7^th team 7-3, Jerry Hollings with a maximum for the leaders. The Grove closed the gap at the top to just three points as they whitewashed Brixham Swifts. Nemo Jones, James Rodger and Nigel Langley in total control throughout for the Totnes outfit. NA Ospreys have suffered a blow with Ollie Pead side lined for several weeks with a rugby injury.  The Merlins’ Marc Winstanley stepped in as a reserve and picked up his first maximum of the season alongside another Henry Greet maximum which helped the Ospreys to a 7-3 win over the Dawlish Dynamos.
