PRESS REPORT – Sunday 6th Mar

With the title already decided at the top of the first division, it was the relegation battle that was of particular interest in the final round of fixtures. Brixham Sharks briefly left the bottom of the pile with an excellent Ben Deakin inspired 7-2 win over Torbay Academy 1. But Halwell A’s 5-4 victory over NA Condors  and Halwell B’s point against Torbay Academy 1 in an 8-1 defeat means the Brixham Sharks end up propping up the table. Just one point separating the bottom three teams. Alessandro Mitranescu and Patrik Cincala had maximums in the Academy’s 8-1 victory.

It was a fitting climax to an incredibly competitive second division season. NA Owls leading Torre Titans by 2 points going in to the final encounter at Torre between the two of them. The Titans were 5-3 up on the night so it was all down to the final set. Matt Cyron held his nerve to win it for the Owls. So it was a 5-4 defeat for Giles Tushingham’s Owls but they claimed the Division Two title. NA Falcons ran in third with a narrow 5-4 victory over Torbay Academy 2, whose Stuart Shipley was undefeated.  Brixham Trawlers climbed up to fourth although they were defeated 5-4 by club mates Brixham Gulls.

Torre Panthers only requiring a point to secure the third division title got six as they defeated NA Kestrels 6-3, skipper Steve Russell with a maximum for the Panthers. Runners up NA Hawks couldn’t prevent Dawlish’s Jason Prescott from retaining his 100% league record but they did secure a 6-3 victory.

Torre Thunder made it 14 wins out of 14 as they took the fourth division title. Since signing on Charun Tatom they never looked like anything other than champions as Tatom went through the season undefeated. His latest maximum along with one from Robert Excell comfortably saw off NA Vultures 8-1. NA Harriers finished their campaign with a 6-3 victory over Brixham Seals, Keith Haslam with another maximum for the Harriers.
