Match Report
Another cracking match between two pretty even teams, the difference this time the consistent power hitting of Yannick.
Two weeks ago the Buzzards sneaked a 6-4 win against the same Condors team. The late withdrawal of star man Herbie did not dampen the enthusiasm as skipper Sonja stepped in for the Buzzards.
This time it was the Condors who shot into a decent lead, leaving the Buzzards to claw themselves back into the match
Yannick was going well from the start, in set one, he encountered a resilient, but injury hampered Jon Cheung. Jon took Yan all the way to 11-9 in the fifth, but Yan just sneaked it. 0-1
Sonja, pushing well, got a game of Mark but lost in four. 0-2
Next up the masterful Kevin Nicholls who never looked in trouble beating Tim in the only three straight match of the night. 1-2
Sonja started well against Yan, winning the first game but Yan then took control. 1-3
Another fifth game defeat for Jon in a really close game with Tim, losing 9-11 in the fifth for the second time in the match. 1-4
Kevin’s 4 game victory over Mark kept the Buzzards in the hunt. 2-4
Up stepped the skipper, Sonja, with some excellent forehand hitting she beat Tim in four. I should just mention she nearly let it slip at 10-4 up, she went back into her shell and Tim recovered to 10-10, but she did eventually push herself to victory. 3-4
The set of the night up next, with some incredible rallies as Yan, this time, was just too consistent for Kevin, winning in four. 3-5
Jon, still struggling with his back, fought admirably to beat Mark 4-5
Things didn’t look good for the Buzzards as Yan & Tim took the first game of the doubles 11-3, but Kevin & Jon fought back to take the next 3 games and secure the draw.
A brilliant match in front of a large crowd, with some tasty refreshments!
