Match Report
A very enjoyable evening and a welcome win for Taverners after a barren spell of results.
Taverners may have won by 8 points to 2 against the Falcons team but Table Tennis was the real winner last night!
How pleasant it was for the match to be played in an excellent atmosphere, sportmanship from both teams, no histrionics and no lengthy breaks between games/points - just getting on with the match. So many thanks to Jeremy, Chris and Mike K for their contribution and Taverners will look forward to our 2 further matches in 2019!
As for the match itself, Colin was "Man of the Match" for a third time this season with another maximum highlighted by a fine display of attacking play against Jeremy who contributed greatly with his own attack but lost out in 3 very competitive and close games.
Both Martin and I managed to support Colin with 2 sets each and Colin and Martin won a tight doubles set in 5 for only our third doubles win of the season.
I must admit I was mightly impressed with Jeremy's performance for Falcons. Personally I have not seen a player improve so much over the past year. Yes Jeremy, who also plays in the Exeter League, is playing a lot more this season but his defensive skills were excellent and his attack, in particular on the forehand side, was impressive.
It was also good to see Chris back playing. Last night may not have been his best following his recent good performances in the league but after what happened to him at the Village Hall last year it is great he is back and all guns blazing!
Finally well done to Mike K who fought hard throughout the evening and took Colin to 5 and then played a full part in the doubles with Jeremy.
Best of luck to the Falcons for the rest of the season and lets have more matches like this in the New Year!
Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas and New Year,
Geoff
