Match Report
2-0 up, 5-3 down but then Taverners won the final 2 sets of the evening to deny Brixham Trawlers their first win of the season and secure a draw.
In analysing the match though, I think it was a fair result for both teams after another competitive and enjoyable contest between 2 very familiar opponents!
The "Man of the Match" was deservedly Ian Saxby who won all his 3 matches with varying degrees of difficulty! His most impressive performance was against Colin when Ian came back from 2 games down to win a tight third game 12-10 and on to a win in 5. Nick supported Ian well with 2 wins and again played impressively at the Village Hall.
Alan may be going through a sticky run of form recently but he played a much better match against Colin to lose in 4. Once Alan's form returns and if Alan, Nick, and Ian can play in all the remaining matches of the season (this was only their fifth match of the season together) then I would be surprised if Trawlers remain bottom of the Division 2 table for long!
Taverners again played fairly consistently as a team with Colin leading the way with 2 wins to maintain his healthy average. Martin and Colin completed the match and the draw with a good performance in the doubles for their third win of the season.
An excellent evening of table tennis with good banter and refreshments thrown in. We look forward to playing Trawlers for the final time this season at Brixham on 14th March!
