Match Report
Taverners completed their League programme at the Village Hall last night.
Unsurprisingly though, against the Champions "elect" of Division 2, the match resulted in a convincing 8-2 win for Torbay Academy 2.
Both Warren and Esmeralda continued their almost "flawless" seasons with maximums and Dave C gave them good support gaining a useful point after an energetic display throughout the evening!
If promotion for Torbay Academy 2 is confirmed later this week, it wiil good to see how Warren and Esmeralda perform in Division 1 next season. I am sure they will do well!
Taverners I thought competed strongly but in the end only picked up the 2 points. It could have been 3 after an excellent performance from Colin and Martin in the doubles but after winning the 4th game 13-11, the extra competitive edge from W and E meant TTTA2 won a very close decider.
When reviewing the 2018/19 season, I have found it both competitive and enjoyable; the best in recent seasons! Taverners will finish 5th (or possibly 4th) which will constitute a good season although, looking forward to 2019/20, Taverners will wish to substitute the number of losses with a few more wins!
Many thanks to Colin and Martin for their wholehearted commitment to the Taverners "cause" this season and for their enjoyable company; not forgetting Tony for his support despite not being called upon to play!
Finally "a big thank you" to Tony H, aided by TT365 (how can Leagues lose this facility?!) for helping to make the 2018/19 season so enjoyable. Well done also to George, David, Maurece, Dennis and rest of the Executive Committee for their contributions in making our League one of the very best!!
See you at the Annual Closed Tournament, the Finals and the AGM.
Taverners now finish the season in "doubles" mode when we entertain Dawlish Diamonds at the Village Hall next Monday.
