Match Report
An evening of great table tennis played in good spirit throughout, with close games, fantastic rallies and tactical brains being used to win some crucial games.
Paul won his three Sets in three games straight, although had to change is tactics at times to get past Pete and Ben in particular.
Ben and Pat had probably the tightest singles of the night with Pat sneaking the first and third games 14-12 and 11-9, Ben won the fourth 11-9 with all games having cracking rallies throughout - in the fifth game Pat changed ends 5-2 down, but mounted a great comeback to eventually win 11-7.
Hawks two wins of the evening came when Pete beat Pat in 4 games and Ben outfoxed Huw in 3 straight.
With Paul getting another ‘maximum’, both Pat and Huw won two Sets leaving the doubles.
Huw and Paul played Ben and Pete, and again this was a tight affair. After the first three games ended with Tykes 2-1 up, they were then let a 10-6 game score slip away and Hawks forced a deciding game winning 6 points in a row. In the final game chances came and went for both sides, and with the game going to deuce with Tykes serving first they had three match points before they clinched the game 14-12! Phew - that was a hard watch!!
Well done to both sides on a great match - which to be honest was closer than the score suggests - but probably Tykes greater experience of playing Div 2 table tennis for longer gave them the edge!
