Match Report
Firstly, many thanks to Newton Abbot Kestrels for bringing the match forward to help Brixham Trawlers' player availability issue...
It was a fun night with a fun, sociable, but competitive Kestrels team. And it was one in which, at 7-0 up, Trawlers fancied a clean sweep! Alas for Trawlers, Kestrels' Rob Williams was able to match and surpass Nick Williamson's flat-hitting game to put a point on the board for Kestrels before Rob and Bruce Freeman smashed Alan Maynard and Ian Saxby's 100% record (well, it was only our third game...) in the doubles in a hard fought five setter.
So, although it felt like a slightly disappointing victory at the time, looking back at Bruce Freeman's ability to claw two of his three games back from 2-0 down to 2-2 only to lose it in the fifth, and Saxby's deuce win in the fourth against Dale Fabian and his killer forehand swoop shot, it was a actually a very good eight points for Trawlers in their fight for...... third spot....?
Thanks to Rob, Dale and Bruce for an enjoyable night!
Alan
