Match Report

Another excellent match against Brixham Trawlers with this time Trawlers coming out winners by 5 sets to 4 with a very close finish in the final set!

With Brixham Trawlers it is always an enjoyable encounter with friendly chat and banter but still extremely competitive which you would expect.

Not for the first time against the Taverners, Ian Saxby was "Player of the Match". With his attacking play and backhand "slow" loop working well he was rarely troubled. I think Ian must like playing at the Village Hall!!

Another player who seems to enjoy the conditions at the VH is Nick W - a familiar face to the Taverners. In fact, the best and most exciting sets of the evening involved Nick. Fortunately, I managed to squeeze home in the final leg but not before Nick came back to level at 2-2.

However, the set of the evening was definitely the final set between Nick and Colin! Colin, after a slow start and down 2-0, fought back well to level. The final leg of the set and the evening was a "classic" with a number of the points being decided with tremendous rallies and fine attacking play. In the end, Nick hung on to win a deserved point I think but it was a great set nonetheless!
