Match Report

A comprehensive win for the Owls and Taverners' worst defeat of the season!
Losing by 8 sets to 1 is never a great feeling but it was a fully deserved win and on the night nothing much the Taverners could do to arrest the "slide" after a difficult start, down 4-0.
Looking at the match in more detail and doing a small bit of analysis, the Owls have won their first 6 matches and must now be firm favourites to win the Division 2 title.
It does help to have a very good three person team to call upon and also in Giles Tushingham their team have someone who is unbeaten so far this season and unlikely to lose any in the remaining matches? Giles has an excellent all- round game with a great forehand and backhand and is tactically astute. I do think Giles would accept he should be playing in Division 1 and where he would be well up in this season's averages!
Having Giles has meant that Matt and Wojtek Cyron have been able to develop their games under his tutalage. Both Matt and Wojtek are therefore improving all the time and with their "eye catching" style of play seemed to have gained tactical awareness of their own in the process! With constant encouragement throughout and advice after each game, their only way is up.........
Taverners, as you would expect, fought hard and Colin gained our solitary point. I felt I played pretty well against both M and W only to lose in 4 and 5 games respectively. All in all, a sobering night for our team but still enjoyable in a perverse kind of way!
On to Brixham Gulls next week........
