Match Report

A good win for Gulls in the race for Div 2 runners-up position. Close games all the way with only two games being settled in straight sets. Alan Maynard was dead and buried in the opener against an in-form Ian Saxby when at 2-0 down, won the 3rd set in deuce and then (somehow) went on to repeat an 11-9 win in the 5th just as he did in the first half of the season. Ian though was able to brush off that defeat and go on to win his remaining two against Allen Pack and Joseph Edwards.

In his first season playing in the league, Charles Lamden played a blinder against Allen and was unlucky not to take his first win. Allen was able to clinch that in five but was unable to turn a close game into a win against Nick Williamson who, in his new boots for the derby match, flat-hitted his way to victory.

Joseph and Allen were in full control in the doubles against Nick and Charles, keeping their 100% record with Gulls finally finding a winning doubles combination!

A fun evening for the Brixham club with this being the only match of the evening in the hall, so we were able to double up and get down to the pub early. Bonus!
