Match Report

A kind of 'bitter-sweet' moment for Gulls last night:

"Sweet" for attaining our first 10-0 "whitewash" which sends us back into
the 2nd spot place over Torre Titans in Division 2 with 2 matches to play.
"Bitter" for doing it against our long-standing friends who make up the
legendary Taverners team and in doing so, making it impossible to lift
themselves from the bottom.

It was a great performance from myself (jumping between matches to fill-in
for a short Sharks team in Division 1), Allen Pack and Joseph Edwards only
dropping 3 sets in the singles games, with Joseph and Allen squeaking
through by the tightest of margins to also win the doubles: 11-9, 9-11,
12-10, 11-13, 12-10!

As ever, Geoff Read, Colin Harrop and Martin Dilkes were gracious in defeat
- always a pleasure to play these guys with some great rallies and, at
times, TT beyond the normal standards of Division 2. Geoff took sets from
Allen and Joseph and Colin was able to do the same early on against Joseph
before the Brixham youngster upper his game and came back.

Although Taverners' fate is now sealed, the blow was softened by the Jammy
Dodgers and Wagon Wheels on offer - the WWs being a particular favourite of
Colin's. Enjoy the rest of the season Taverners, see you in a couple of
seasons' time when you gain promotion from Div 3!
