Northumbria county player Leo Conn continued his outstanding season hitting three straight wins at high-flying St.Gabriel’s A to keep Backspin A’s survival hopes alive in the Sunderland first division. Jamie Hall’s brace and one more from John Cook was enough to seal the Stanley side’s first win of the season against the experienced Kayll Road team who are jockeying Unionist A team for a third place finish. Jake Helm’s brace and a point from John Williamson who combined with Helm in the doubles gave St. Gabriel’s four valuable points in a tight 4/6 reverse. Other results in one - St. Gabriel’s B 8 East Boldon A 2, Durham Aces 6 West A 4.

 

 

Team performance of the week in two went to Durham University who, in second place, hosted league leaders Mount and won 9-1. Students Ben McHoul (2), Elliot Gregory (3) and Rowan Jones (3) took their unbeaten team 11 points behind Mount with a game in hand. Dan Foster grabbed Mount’s consolation. Old England Legends stay third with a resounding 10-0 win over Durham Tornadoes. Dave Godbold, Graham Sleep and Phil Bowden continuing their fine form. Other results in two - Backspin B 7 St. Gabriel’s C 3, East Boldon B 7 Lanchester Centurions 3. 

 

At the top of division three, Backspin C travelled to Lanchester Praetorians and won 7/3. Daniel Dobson combined with Jason Kemp to seal the doubles leg for the home side and Dobson added two more singles ties. Backspin’s three dropped points were taken full advantage of by Brandon Jets who flew past them into top spot with their 10/0 win over Ashbrooke B. The scoreline tighter than first glance with three of the ten sets going to five games. Player of the match Sam Dale plus three more from Max Hancock and Jude Warner taking the young Brandon side top by a point with four games each to play. Other results in three - Brandon Devils 4 Ashbrooke A 6, East Boldon C 4 DL Ninjas 6.
