Match Report

"Neither Mount nor Brandon Air made a gain over each other as they played to a second 5-5 draw. The match started with the battle of the two Jamies: Dent vs Lupton. After an understandably cautious start, both players found their own rhythm, going back and forth with many rallies close and away from the table. In the end, it was Lupton who narrowly took the point for Air 10-12 in the fifth. The man of the match was Andy Wilkinson, who flew through the Air without dropping an end in his single games. Pairing up with Dent in the doubles, they came out on top in two close first ends, leaving Lupton and Lee Tinkler with a Mount to climb. While they did recover the third end, Wilkinson and Dent found their synergy to win the fourth and the point. Anth Ainley and Geoff Salter also went the distance in their game, with Salter peaking at the right moment taking four points in a row to take the fifth 11-7. However, Ainley did not go away empty handed, finding the right tactics to break through the Air resistance in a five-ender against Lupton. This gave Mount a 5-4 lead heading into the final match of Dent vs Tinkler, which was a fast and furious display at times with both players attempting to drive and counterdrive each other. In the end, it was Tinkler's use of topspin loops that gave him the victory 3-1 to finalise the match draw.

With 6 matches remaining, Mount have a 15 point lead at the top of the league table. Brandon Air have a match in hand and assuming they get the maximum, Mount still hold a 5 point advantage. With this small point gap, there will be added pressure on both teams to collect every point available which should make for an exciting finish to the season.
