Match Report

This week a Tornado blew in from Durham to try and blow away the West CAC who were represented by ‘Chainsaw’ Kelly, Alan ‘who is still playing’ Whitwham and the Silver old fox Howard Forster.  This turned out to be a very long, hard-fought match.

The first set Chainsaw overcame a young Euan Copple over 5 ends in a match where both players hit the ball hard. This was followed by Silver Fox beating Kye , the Cyclops, Bradley over 4 games despite losing the 1st end 11-3 and then of course came Alan who played a special guest Steve Verde who won the first 2 ends, but the old man Alan fought back to pull level and Steve went on to take the last game 12-10 , so well played Steve. The game was very tense affair were the lead changed hands 4 times before the match ended in a deserved draw, so everybody was happy, I think.

Steve won 2 sets for Tornadoes backed up with 2 games from Euan, but the Cyclops lost all his games but teamed up with Euan to defeat Chainsaw and Alan in the doubles.

West’s sets came from Silver Fox and, hard to believe, Alan who returned to some kind of form to beat the Cyclops, but there was no stopping Chainsaw Kelly, who was Man of the match, so well played Declan for winning 3 sets and guiding West to a draw.

The Cyclops played well, but was out of luck on the night, and thanks for letting me win and giving me hope for the future.

Gan Canny,

Alan, not quite finished yet, Whitwham.
