The top game in the Hastings & District Table Tennis League Division One came when second placed Saints A met third placed Bexhill A, both previous title winners.

Saints came out on top 6-4 as no player dominated the match with James Winchester and Dave Butler (Saints) and Dave Rayment and Martin Kellaway (Bexhill) all winning twice. From 2-5 down, Bexhill came back to 4-5, including a win for Kellaway over Butler at 12-10 in the fifth. John Wond held his nerve to secure the win for Saints with a 3-1 defeat of Ryan Warner.

At the foot of the table, Bexhill E’s relegation was confirmed with a 3-7 loss to Bexhill C. For the C team, Andy Chapman won three and Graham Gillett two while Graham Primett’s two for the E team included  a straight-games win over Gillett.

Just above Bexhill E, Bexhill D have a glimmer of hope after a 5-5 draw with Bexhill B with a maximum for Kevin McEwan and two wins for Cameron Jones.

Hollington Academy D now lead Bexhill D by a solitary point after a 7-3 defeat by Tackleway A. Roy Funnell was unbeaten for Tackleway and Andy Furnival won two for the Academics who face Bexhill D next week.

In Division Two, leaders Saints B could not afford to slip up, with rivals Hollington A playing twice. In the event, Saints team of Ron Davenport, Jamie Martin and Andre Keen were untroubled in a 10-0 defeat of Bexhill F.

Not so for Hollington A who were held 5-5 by Bexhill G in a re-arranged match. Tina Beaney had an outstanding maximum for Bexhill while Shaun Godfrey and Kevin Barry won two each for Hollington. Beaney had to come from 0-2 down to beat Barry 3-2.

Hollington dropped another point in a 7-3 win over Nalgo A. Normal service was resumed for Godfrey and Barry with maximums for both, despite the presence of Paul Hyland in the Nalgo ranks.

The tussle for the runner-up spot in Division Three continues with four points covering five teams. This now includes Hollington E who beat Hollington D 8-2 with maximums for Yasar Akar and Adam Akar.
