Tributes to Keith Young from those who knew him

Two senior members of Hollington TTC have offered their memories of Keith Young, who passed away suddenly in February.

Nick Demeza writes…
I first met Keith some 13 years ago when my grandson started to play Table Tennis.  Keith was the most likeable person anybody could wish to meet.  He was Table Tennis mad and played throughout East Sussex and Kent.  He was generous with his knowledge and time to all our club members and beyond.  He recently donated at least 10 fully made-up bats to be used for visiting players.  He was our man to turn to when a new blade or bat rubbers was needed.  His passing was a great shock to not only Hollington but to all who knew him.  He is going to be sorely missed.

Peter Shoesmith writes…
Keith has been playing table tennis for many years all over East Sussex.  He has been at Hollington for a number of years and has helped with the junior coaching that we do.

Keith had many interests including vintage motorcycles and had an old AJS which he restored to a very high standard.  The AJS was shown at the Hollington Remembers exhibition last year and admired by many of the gentlemen visitors who remembered this cycle from their childhood.

Keith was an avid table tennis player and played in many leagues including Hastings, Eastbourne and Ashford and frequently went down to Bournemouth for adult coaching courses.

I have personally known Keith for many years and played with him in the Hastings league - also accompanying him to the NEC national motorbike exhibition numerous times before and after Covid.  Always a great day out and Keith was very knowledgeable on all the bikes old and new on display.

He will be sorely missed.
