A great opening match with Tackleway B perhaps a little lucky to salvage all four points with so many evenly matched players in the mix.

Roy Funnell claimed an excellent maximum with his ferocious backhand doing the damage in straight sets against Malcolm Barber and Trevor Darby while his duel with Andy Panayi went almost to the wire favouring Roy 11-9 in the final set.

Mike Funnell’s games were all fairly close with his all-round counter hitting approach taking him over the line against Malcolm and Trevor in four sets but saw the reversed outcome against Andy Panayi – losing in four sets with Andy’s big smashes proving decisive.

Steve Hickey’ comfortably saw off Andy and Trevor in straight sets – they couldn’t handle his combination rubbers and terrific forehand smash.  Malcolm had no such trouble and took Steve in straight sets.

Roy and Mike took the doubles in four sets to seal a great victory for the home side.
