Adeyfield 1st 6 - 4 St. George's 1st
BOARDMAN TAKES BATTLE OF RANKING TOP DOGS TO SECURE ADEYFIELD WIN
Disappointed that St. Georges only turned up with 2 players - a particular bugbear of mine.
[Edit: Only 2nd time St. George's have not had a full team, but coincidentally both against Adeyfield 1st].
We won 3 of the opening 4 sets played, so the score was effectively 6-1 in no time, contest over, good sets though they were. The next match brought together the top two players in the League, *according to the website’s TT365 Rankings*, with no. 2 Mike Boardman defeating no. 1 Michael Wilkins over 4 exhilerating games. Uncharacteristically, Michael lost the last 9 points from 6-2 up. The ex Northchurch man has reinvented himself in the role of one of St. George's main providers (alongside the ever improving junior player, Daniel Broner) and I’m sure he is more used to winning runs of 9 points than to losing them. Michael (Wilkins) won his other sets in 5 games, including coming from 5-1 down in the decider against Mark York.
St. George’s young teen, Daniel Broner, beat Mike (Boardman) for the second time this season, with Mike having only lost one other time, all season, but lost to Mark and myself, so everyone both won and lost on the night.
