News - Week 9

The first round of the handicap cup was fully completed this week, with the winners proceeding into the final eight and the losers getting a second chance in the Presidents’ Trophy games to played week commencing Monday 7 March. An updated draw and results appear on the Handicap Cup tab.

 

The closest encounter witnessed Rhyl C gain a first victory of the season beating Police A by two points. Police A were set a task of restricting Rhyl C below twenty-five points. However, Steve Lowe inflicted the key damage by beating Roger Lee 40-39. Another tight match resulted in Police B beating Henllan B by seven points. Peter Roberts ensured that the target of thirty-points was maintained by winning his three games restricting his opponents to 28, 23 and 22 points. In an all first division clash Llandudno prevailed by ten points over Y Morfa A. This was a tight match with no one player dominating, it was all level after eight matches.Trinity A beat Amlwch A by eighteen points. The key game was the Trinity A victory in the doubles restricting Amlwch A to 34 points. Henllan A were tasked with winning their games to 33 against Trinity B. A fantastic performance by junior Elliot Godard beating first division players Melvyn BookerHarold Furber and Jonny Hughes ensured a victory for Trinity B by 43 points. Rhyl B overcame Amlwch B by 62 points, while Reg John did win his three singles bouts, he was pushed to 37 points by John HughesRhyl B won all the other seven ties. In the Craig-y-don derby the A team eased passed the B team by 78 points. This was largely due to the improving Tom Bird who restricted his opponents to 23, 19 and 18 points. Another one-sided (badly handicapped match) witnessed Y Morfa B beat Rhyl A by 56 points with a game to spare. Rhyl A were tasked with restricting Y Morfa B below 16 points in each game, a feat they were only able to achieve in four games. Steve Davies achieved 25 against Glen Phoenix and Dave Meadows made 24 against Barrie Russ.
