In the President’s Trophy quarterfinal, Rhyl B eased through to a semi-final clash with Rhyl C following a 523-443 victory. Iain MacGillivray did beat Fred Moore to 33 points. However, in the remaining nine pairings Henllan C did not achieve their 35-point target, John Hughes proving a particularly difficult opponent.
In the Handicap Cup semi-final Henllan A had to restrict Craig-y-don B below a 26-point average per game. Bob Hughes amassed 38 against Melvyn Booker and 28 against Paul Hulme. However, Jonny Hughes clawed back the deficit and some in a clear-cut win over Bridget Prescott. In the other seven encounters Henllan A kept Craig-y-don B comfortably below the handicap target.
In the first division, Amlwch A easily outpointed Y Morfa A 30-1, with Andy Horton securing the only point in a 1-3 loss to Reg John.
Trinity A secured the runners position following a 26-13 victory over Craig-y-don A. Stuart Dearden won two tight five-game battles against both Tom Bird and Ross Lander. Ross came out the right side of another five-game encounter beating Eddie Chan 11-9 in the decider. Abhishek Bathula was denied a maximum with Tom Bird extracting one game.
In the second division, Amlwch B are crowned champions with three fixtures to play following a 30-5 win over fourth placed Henllan B. Andrew Lloyd landed anther maximum and currently tops the individual standings in the division. Don Grigg took a game from Reg John and Iain McGillivray lost out 9-11 to Caren Ault in a fifth game decider. Amlwch B also remain unbeaten in the doubles but were taken to a fifth game decider here, before asserting 11-6.
