Match Report
Great way to finish the season for Castaways, not so much for Outcasts. In addition, it was a return to Castaways spiritual home as Bob Coull managed to get the match played at the Treasury. Mike Loveder came along to support his teammates and, as usual, Mike O’Leary joined his team in the pub afterwards.
TBF although it was 10-0 it was one heck of a match with some very close legs, but Castaways just seemed to come out on top every time.
One five legger and five four leggers give lie to it being a walkover.
Nabil played thirteen legs across three games without a win coming closest against Pete when losing 7 in the fifth after losing the second to 13!
Bob managed one four leggers though it should have been two after losing the second leg to Neil to 11 from 9-2 up.
Andrew had a tough night with lots of bad luck but managed a leg against Johnny.
For Castaways they really stepped up a gear from last week’s 6-4 win over PRO and apart from Pete’s five legger against Nabil and Johnny’s wobble also against Nabil it was good maximums for all three.
The doubles matched Johnny and Neil against Bob and Andrew, and the former won out only conceding 10 points in the three legs they won though Bob and Andrew managed to take the second leg to 8.
So, Castaways achieve their target of runners-up which looked very unlikely earlier in the season but a strong finish with Pete playing on one leg and Johnny coming right into form sealed it meaning they achieved their highest position in the league all season after the final match.
Of course, the match finished with the traditional visit to the pub, in this case the Two Chairman, again the old pub of choice when Castaways played at the Treasury, where some enjoyed a quick three pints; and all enjoyed the usual post-match dissection!
