Match Report

A cracking match with one or two surprises perhaps. Chris P won his three though not without a scare against Johnny who was ahead in the first two legs before losing them, then won the next two easily before Chris took back control.

Chris H’s night started badly when he broke his phone on the way to the game and it unfortunately got worse with losses to Johnny in four and Neil in three. He then looked as though his first win was on the cards when 2-0 legs up and match point up against Mike but having lost the match point he lost the third then collapsed to lose in five.

Adam returned for Nat West after a couple of years absence and had a cracking first match with Neil which could easily have gone either way but having come back from one leg down to lead two to one, he then lost the next two, the fifth from 5-1 up. A tough start which then got worse when he couldn’t find a way to play Mike and lost three straight. However he then found his mojo beating Johnny in four with Johnny having no real answer to his constant topspin.

Castaways entered the match fearing for their unbeaten record but good performances from Neil and Mike winning two each and with the vital one from Johnny they managed to get the draw.

The doubles proved interesting but with each of the Castaways pair serving off at vital points in the first and fourth legs when losing both they perhaps were their own worst enemies but went down fighting to their first loss as a pair.

So the unbeaten run for the team goes on, the last loss in either a normal season or the curtailed 20-21 season being on 30/1/19 against Treasury A (now Comets A) when the opposition fielded a Chinese International but Castaways still went on to win the league which they haven’t since – so far!

Great spirit as usual and there was even a (critical) spectator as Mr Harris put in an appearance ahead of his visit to his Surgeon for a further assessment on 1 December, ironically the day Castaways meet Comets A.
