Match Report

Sometimes a match just shouldn’t be played or perhaps players shouldn’t play.

With apologies to the Comets team neither Mike nor I really wanted to be there for different reasons.
I was just feeling guilty for leaving my nursing duties for my wife (even though she insisted I have a couple of hours off), and Mike had to get to Bromley urgently to get a signature.

Without a third player it was difficult to get motivated as we knew just turning up had secured the runners up position and there was nothing on the match for us or realistically for  Comets.
This takes nothing away from their individual and team performances as they got the job done with David managing a great double whilst Jamie and Tai picked up one each.

The first three singles all went to five with two going to Comets and one to Castaways, cracking games in other circumstances but was really just the prelude to things deteriorating.
Mike then won the fourth singles in four but that was about as good as it got.
The next singles saw me do something I haven’t done for a very long time, basically give up and concede.
Mike then more or less did the same to lose three straight as it was now way past the tlme he had needed to leave.

In view of my state of mind and Mike needing to get away we conceded the doubles, again apologies to Comets.
A sad end to a difficult second half of the season and we’ll try to make it up to Comets next time we meet.
Probably best to gloss over our part in the match Richard.

PS Really sad news to hear that Richard Mak has passed away, apparently, he got diagnosed with Cancer ten days ago and there was nothing they could do – really made me realise how lucky Julie and I are currently given the similarities in the situations.
A solid member of the league for many, many years and our thoughts will be with his friends and family.
I’ve asked for the funeral and other details and will make sure they are forwarded for the website when I have them.
