Match Report

An intriguing match which on the surface looks very straightforward, but in fact was anything but with a number of inexplicable and incredible comebacks.
With slight changes to the original line-ups from the first half, George for Ronnie and Les for Chris Penrose we hoped for a better result.
We'll start with Adam,  in imperious form conquering all before him comfortably 3 straight.

And so we come to the first of 4 games in which the other player should have won.
Les quickly despatches George and we find ourselves 2-0 down on the night.

After two games the match between Ollie and Gareth is delicately balanced at 1-1. Gareth storms ahead in the third to lead 10-3 to hold 7 game points and poised to go ahead 2-1, but no it wasn't to be, with Ollie winning the last 9 points to snatch the game 12-10 and then the match by winning the fourth end.
A complete reversal of fortune followed Gareth into his next match against me. 2-0 down and 6-2 down in the third end, all seemed lost, but again no, with Gareth winning the next 9 points to delay the eventual outcome.

The last two comebacks featured in my match v Les.  He lost the first game from being 9-6 up and then won the second from being 9-5 down. Fortunately for me, the last two games went my way with little event.

With only 1 win from our previous 5 doubles matches, the odds were firmly stacked against us. At 2-0 up all was looking good, but NatWest quickly dispelled our joy by squaring the match at 2-2. We needed a good start in the fifth to have any chance of winning the match. And so it proved, leading 5-1 at the change of ends we never relinquished the 4 point lead coming through 11-7 to finish the night with a very respectable 6-4 defeat.
