Match Report

So a match that at the start of the season and at the halfway point looked to be the one to decide the title destination turned into a match for pride as Morpeth will finish in fourth and Castaways will finish second but that didn’t stop either team playing to their best.

The first game up demonstrated this with Sammy and Keld going toe to toe and over five legs Sammy prevailed to 8 itf.

Pete then started his match against Oleg, with the former about to have a stormer and the latter a bit of a mare. Pete duly won in three.

Neil then took on Rob who was looking for revenge from the first half and he got it in a tightly contested four legger which included two deuces with legs won form losing positions.

That brought the Castaways star back to the table and in a very impressive three legs Pete managed a three-straight win against Sammy.

Keld then took on Rob who was inspired form and befuddled Keld to take the game and put Morpeth back in the lead.

Neil and Oleg came to the table and the befuddling went the other way to bring the match back to a draw.

Rob then took the first leg from Pete indicating a possible upset on the cards, but Pete showed his class, rallied, and took the next three legs to put Castaways in the lead for the first time.

A big game needed from both players in the next match to either cement a draw or to keep Morpeth in the mix. Sammy prevailed hitting everything Neil could throw at him and winning quite easily three straight.

Cometh the hour cometh the two players on no wins for the evening so something had to give. Oleg came out fighting and took the first leg but Keld fought back and after winning the second leg took the next in an all-important deuce game and then ran away with the fifth meaning the draw was secured but Castaways wanted the win to finish the season with an equal W/D/L record with Treasury.

However, their star was called away to an urgent phone call meaning the second-string combination were entrusted to secure the win. However, Morpeth were equally determined to not finish the season with a loss.

The order was all important and Castaways chose to play second fiddle meaning they were hoping to buck the odds, but the first leg went with the form book to Morpeth. Castaways then took the second as expected. This brought up the third leg which was pivotal and despite the best efforts of the Castaways pair, Morpeth ran out 13-11 winners. The fourth again went with form so 2-2 with a close fifth to come? Unfortunately, not, as Morpeth raced into a 5-0 love lead before the turn round and this was just too much for Castaways to recover from so Morpeth got their draw and Castaways their third of the season.

As usual, a great evening played in great spirit, thanks to all for making it an excellent evening.
