Match Report

The last match of the season for both teams, a rearranged game from when Castaways were unable to field a team.

It started with a wobble from Norman against Eddie, but he came through to win in four. Neil then took on Andrew, who was very unlucky to lose in three with two deuce games.

Terry came to the table against Alan and always looked in control in the first two legs but then fell well behind in the third, losing 9-4. However, Alan was not able to get over the line and Terry came back to win it to 11.

Andrew then found his best form against Norman to win in three though Norman had the third at his mercy before losing to 11.

The next three games went to form with three straight wins for Terry over Eddie; Neil over Alan; and Terry over Andrew thought Andrew only lost the third on deuce.

That brought up the closest game of the night, Alan v Norman. The first leg was a routine win for Norman but then Alan turned the tables to take the next two legs to 7 and 9. Alan then looked odds on to win the fourth but somehow Norman clung on and managed to get back to win to 11. The fifth then ran away from Alan to give Norman a win ion five.

The last singles saw Eddie not able to match Neil’s play and was a win for the visitors.

The doubles was a strange affair! Eddie and Andrew against Neil and Terry. First leg routine to the away team to 4. Second leg, a complete turnaround to the home team to 2. The third leg was crucial, and the away team managed to win it to 10 before running away with the fourth.

So, a 9-1 win for Castaways to finish the season and all that remained was the very welcome visit to the pub – in this instance the St Stephen’s Tavern which agreeably stays open til 23:30, nice!

Not a bad way to end the season and Pete M, Alan and Mike (who joined us in the pub afterwards) say hello!
