LEAGUE UPDATE 5TH DECEMBER
NESLC Eagles were beaten for the first time this season in the Northumbria League Premier Division when they visited Cramlington Stingers losing 6 - 4 with David Graham and Geoff Salter both getting two sets for the home side. Cramlington Casuals won 9 - 1 at Seaburn Dene to take over at the top of the table. Bottom team Newcastle Communities have strengthened their side by signing two Durham University students Hai Qing Chau and Yu Hei Tang and they gained their first victory by beating Springwell A 6 - 4. Chau had little trouble in winning all of her sets.
Old England Jacks defeated North Fire A 7 - 3 to stay on top of division one with Tony Gelder unbeaten and Byker A remain in second spot thanks to unbeaten performances by Phil Prady and Steve Dickinson in an 8 - 2 success over Riding Mill B.
In the second division leaders YMCA North Tyneside B beat Birtley 8 - 2 but had their lead cut to one point as Cobras defeated Ouston C 10 - 0. Mortimer saw off the Corinthians 7 - 3 and are only a further three points adrift.
Cramlington Spartans take over at the top of the fourth division after a 10 - 0 demolition job against Matfen B, Mike Dunn, Adam Shafiq and Paul Jamieson winning all of their sets. Whitley Chapel are moving up the table, having only lost one match so far and having successive victories over the Cramlington teams, Dragons and Ravens. Stefan Sobell is the man in form at the moment and was undefeated in both matches.
Fourth division Newcastle Communities B who included both Chinese players Yi Zhou and Chen Ji against the youngsters from Cramlington Magpies and ran out 10 - 0 winners are now in second spot behind Sacriston Comets who beat Newton D 7 - 3 to retain their 100% record. The Jaguars made a comeback from 4 - 1 down to defeat Ouston D 6 - 4 thanks to a hat-trick by Ken Brown.
