League Update 20th August
Cramlington Casuals are the champions of the Northumbria Summer League after an 8 -2 victory at Riding Mill. Andrew Wilkinson and Steve Penman were unavailable but hat-tricks from Keith Patterson and Phil Prady, who also won the doubles, together with one set from Duncan Wraight saw them seal the title. Second place is still to be decided after Saint Chads and Cramlington Stingers drew 5 – 5 with Keith Weatherby winning all of his matches for the Saints.Bonne Habekost and Dale Aitkenhead each got two for the Stingers. The result leaves the Saints three points ahead of the Stingers and all will depend upon therir final matches against YMCA N.Tyneside and Riding Mill respectively.
A draw at home against Mortimer in division one was enough to gain promotion for North Fire as runners up to Sacriston Aces with Barry Hill getting two sets and being backed up by Bob Atwell and Bob Appleby who got one each and also took the doubles set. Their nearest challengers, Cramlington Cobras also shared the points with Ouston A, Duncan Wraight winning all of his sets.
Division three is still to be decided but with Cramlington Corinthians dropping three sets to Steve Oxley of Whitley Chapel it is almost certain that Sacriston Bombers and Matfen B will take the two promotion spots.
The Bombers are one point behind after defeating their Comets side 6 – 4 and their final match is at home to Whitley Chapel while Matfen B only need a draw away to Lanchester to go up.
NESLC have completed their fixtures in division four and are assured of promotion. Either Brandon and Byshottles or Ouston B will accompny them into division three after they meet in their final fixture.
