League Update 27th August
Cramlington Table Tennis Club finished the Northumbria Summer League with their Casuals side winning the first division championship and their Stingers team as runners-up. The Casuals had already been crowned champions and the Stingers team of David Graham, Iain Wood and Bonne Habekost took second spot when they came away from Riding Mill with a 10 – 0 victory under their belts. Saint Chads had been in contention but despite two wins each from Chis Blake and Jimmy Scope they were beaten 6 – 4 by YMCA North Tyneside. Andy Dryden was the player of the match, getting a hat-trick for the YM as well as helping Nigel Rodgers to success in the doubles. Rodgers got one set in the singles as did Paul Baines, both defeating Barry Cuthbertson.
Matfen B team visited Lanchester needing a draw to clinch promotion from division three and with Alex Holliday unbeaten they ran out 7 – 3 winners. John Henderson picked up a couple of wins and Dave Sawn got the other. Dave McAllister won two singles for the home side and young Thaaqib Saleem got the other. Sacriston Bombers, however, are favourites to win the division having to play Whitley Chapel in their final game.
Sacriston Desperadoes came out on top in the division four clash of two young teams with Max Duffin winning all of his sets as well as the doubles with his brother Sam. Sam lost out in the singles to Alex Creighton but twice came from two games down to win his matches against Jamie Hall and MacKenzie Clark to see the Desperadoes home 6 – 4
The North Eastern Masters Veterans tournament takes place on Saturday and Sunday at The Seaburn Centre, Sunderland.
