League Update 9th July
Andy Dryden and Jim Stamas were both in good form for YMCA North Tyneside, both winning all of their singles against Springwell in the first division of the Northumbria Summer League. They also combined to take the doubles set and with Paul Baines getting one the YMCA ran out 8 – 2 winners. Leaders Cramlington Casuals defeated Seaburn Dene 9 – 1 and second placed Saint Chads  beat Tyne Dock by a similar score.
Sacriston’s Polish star, Waldemar Dzwonkowkoski was unbeaten yet again for their Aces second division team and with Ian McAllister and Duncan Fraser doing likewise they easily defeated Springwell B 10 – 0. The North East Chinese Association A team had mixed results, going down 6 – 4 at home to Cramlington Cobras and then defeating Ouston A 7 – 3.  Yi Zhou had a couple of victories in both matches and Ji Chen Yuan was unbeaten in the match against Ouston. Cobras’ Duncan Wraight and Lynsey Storey both got two singles with Gareth Pearson getting one as well as the doubles partnered by Wraight.  They also played a second match but were without their regular player Arran Kent and were held to a draw away to  bottom club Mortimer despite a hat-trick by Wraight. Dave Bannon got two for the home team with Ray Purves and Jamie Westwater taking one each and Bannon and Westwater being successful in the doubles. Frank Lasek and Bob Appleby turned in unbeaten performances for North Fire and with Karen Henry winning twice they defeated Old England 8 – 2.
Three teams are in contention at the top of division three with Matfen B a single point ahead of Sacriston Bombers and Cramlington Corinthians only a further three behind. Matfen’s team of Alex Holliday, Dave Swan and John Henderson had little difficulty in overcoming Sacriston Comets 10 – 0 and a hat- trick by Daniel Hutchinson helped the Bombers to defeat Matfen’s A side 7 – 3. Lynsey Storey was unbeaten for the Corithinians with Alan Hedley and Paul Jamieson getting two each in their 8 – 2 success over Lanchester
Brandon and Byshottles team of Henry Davies, Simon Knopf and John Leeman moved back to the top of the fourth division after easily beating Cramlington Magpies 10 – 0 and Ouston B kept up their good form to  defeat Sacriston Chargers 7 – 3. Norman Badger, Jamie Milroy and David Nichols all picked up two singles but none of them could get the better of Peter Whitfield. Nick Yuen and George Gie were both unbeaten as N.E.C.A. B team overcame Cramlington Jaguars 8 – 2 with Norman Patrick chipping in with one set.
