In week 3 of the Northumbria Table Tennis League Cramlington Stingers retained their position at the top of Division 1 with a 7-3 home victory over North Tyneside YMCA. Stingers’ Dale Aitkenhead won his 3 sets plus the doubles with Iain Wood. Despite an away defeat of 4-6 against St Chads Cramlington Casuals held on to their second place in the division with the help of Andrew Wilkinson’s 3 wins. In the other matches Michael Grimes won his 3 sets in Tyne Dock’s away victory at Riding Mill. John Williamson and Alex Smith each won their 3 sets in their 8-2 defeat of Seaburn Dene.
The top 2 teams in Division 2 met this week when Sacriston Aces entertained Old England. Sacriston’s Waldemar Dzwonkowski continued is winning record with 3 victories in this drawn match. Ouston A were defeated 4-6 at home by North Fire. No player won all their sets so “Man of the match” was Frank Lasek with 2 wins plus the doubles to earn the title.
Matfen B are top of Division 3 and confirmed that with their away victory of 7-3 against Cramlington Knights. Dave Swan and Alex Holiday, for Matfen, came away with the perfect score, each winning their 3 singles matches and combining to take the doubles. Meanwhile Matfen B played Cramlington Corinthians and the teams shared the points, 5-5, with Keith Hodges winning his 3 singles and combining with Nigel Tree to contribute 4 points to Matfen’s tally of 5.
The front runners in Division 4 are NECA “B” who secured a home victory of 8-2 against Sacriston Desparadoes with Chung Yan Ho winning 3 sets for the home team. Ouston B scored an away win of 9-1 against Cramlington Jaguars with Norman Badger and Jamie Milroy each winning their singles and the doubles. The two remaining matches each ended in 9-1 victories for the away team as Brandon and Byshottles beat Sacriston Chargers and NESLC beat Cramlington Magpies.
