League Update 12th November
Byker A are proving to be a force to be reckoned with in the Premier Division of the Northumbria League as they retained their unbeaten record when they visited Cramlington Reivers. Dave Robson won all three of his singles as well as partnering Keith Patterson to success in the doubles and with Patterson winning two singles and Christine Burke getting one they ran out 7 – 3 winners.
NESLC Eagles had Eddie Smith to thank for coming away from Springwell with a 6 – 4 victory. He won all of his matches and was backed up by Richard Wilson who bagged two , Rob Reed getting the other. Colin Hunt did best for the home side , beating Wilson and Reed.
Hat-tricks from Anthony Ainley and John Russell helped division one leaders Newton to crush Old England Jacks 9 – 1. Micky Grimes of Mortimer was another player in this division to get a hat-trick as Mortimer beat Riding Mill B 7 – 3
Division two leaders Springwell B team of Mike Hope, Charlie Mouzon and Caron Guthrie continued their winning ways by whitewashing Cramlington Trojans 10 – 0 and Birtley moved into third spot with a 7 –3 win over Old England FATTS, John Rowell being unbeaten.
North East Chinese Association C strengthened their team by the inclusion of Chun Yin Yu for the visit of leaders Matfen B. He had previously won his matches in division one against the league leaders and easily picked up his three at this lower level to help his side share the points.
George Rkman was the man of the match when Cramlington Jaguars met Newton C in division four, winning three singles and also the doubles with Phil Smith. Smith picked up two to give the Jaguars a 6 – 4 win.
