League Update 22nd October
Cramlington Casuals went six points clear at the top of the Northumbria League Premier division after winning 9 – 1 away to YMCA North Tyneside. Steve Penman and Anthony Barella were both unbeaten with Barry Richardson losing out to Andy Dryden. Cramlington Tigers and Byker shared the spoils with Keith Patterson unbeaten for Byker and winning the doubles partnered by Phil Prady who won one of his singles. Duncan Wraight (2) Gareth Pearson(2) and Arran Kent got on the scoreboard for the Tigers.
Anthony Ainley and Graeme Bell were both in form for first division leaders Newton, both being unbeaten as they crushed North Fire A 9 – 1. Rob Lawson won two and Bob Appleby got the only set for the Fire.
The Fire’s B team fared better by winning at home match to the Chinese Association 8 – 2. Barry Hill, Micky Bull and Karen Henry all got two with Chen Xuan Ji doing likewise for the visitors.
Springwell B lead the way in Division Two after a hat-trick from Mike Hope helped them to an 8 – 2 victory over Old England Crocks, Alan Livingstone and Caron Guthrie getting two apiece. Old England FATTS and Saints
had a hard fought encounter in which the FATTS led 5 –3 only to be pegged back and had to be content with a draw.Vince KIllen won all of his sets for the Saints.
Terry Kwong was in good form for the Chinese C team in division 3 and his hat-trick took his side to a 6 – 4 win over Whitley Chapel, Kit Robinson won two and Steve Oxley did the same for the losers.
David Nichols, Derek Knapp and Jamie Milroy saw division four Ouston C to a 10 – 0 win away to Cramlington Ravens.
The Border Reivers team of Geoff Salter, Jim Stamas, Richard Wilson and Dale Aitkenhead had mixed fortunes in the second division of the Veterans British League, winning one, drawing two and losing two in the first round of matches.
