League Update 21st January
Cramlington Casuals had Steve Penman back in their side after injury and he gave them a perfect start in their Northumbria League Premier Division fixture against Byker by defeating high flying Dave Robson.
Barry Richardson accounted for Christine Burke and Andrew Wilkinson beat Keith Patterson before Byker got on the scoresheet with a victory for Robson over Richardson. Penman and Wilkinson needed five ends to beat Robson and Patterson in the doubles and the Casuals never looked back, running out 9 – 1 winners. The highlight of the remaining matches was a very entertaining match between Wilkinson and Robson with
Wilkinson coming out on top to get revenge for his defeat by Robson before Christmas.
Springwell and YMCA North Tyneside shared the points with Andy Dryden unbeaten for the YM and John Williamson and Colin Hunt getting two each for Springwell.
North Fire had mixed fortunes in the first division with the A team losing out 6 – 4 at home to Matfen A despite Bob Appleby and Barry Hill both winning two sets. Phil Rainford, however, was unbeaten for the visitors. Their B team visited Byker and with Mick Bull, Hill, and Karen Henry getting two singles each they won by the same score.
Saints and Old England FATTS continue to struggle in division two with the former losing out 9 – 1 to Springwell B for whom Micky Hope and Alan Livingstone were unbeaten and FATTS being whitewashed by YMCA B side of John Carr, Jim Robertson and Don Catley.
