League update 8th July
Top of the table Cramlington Stingers team of Dale Aitkenhead, Iain Wood and Mark Christie had a convincing 9 - 1 victory over Sacriston Aces in the First Division of the Northumbria Summer League, but the Aces’ young player Max Duffin did extremely well to beat Wood. Mark O’Connor and Peter Stempczyk were both unbeaten for Riding Mill who had a similar scoreline against Byker TTC with Maurice Cheek getting two, only losing to Mark Kimberley.
The top of the table clash in Division Two between Old England and North East Chinese Association went the way of the home side with Jake Helm winning all of his sets and combining with Joe Muldowney to take the doubles. The match score stood at 3 – 2 at one stage but the home side then took control to win 7 – 3, Alan Atkinson and Ken Clark getting two each. Xiao Huang and Chen Xuan Ji managed one each for the Chinese side as well as the doubles.
Ouston B and Matfen B shared the points in a division three match that was closely fought all of the way. Peter Seago and Nigel Tree each got two for the away side with Jeff McKenna unbeaten for Ouston.
Cramlington Corinthians just managed to retain their 100 per cent record in Division four thanks to three sets from Angus Poole backed up by two from Sam Nair and victory in the doubles by Nair and Adrian Barnes when they defeated a strong Lanchester B team 6 – 4. John Cook got two for the losers with Liam Ord and Adam Butler each winning one.
In Division five Brandon Devils and Cramlington Knights drew 5 – 5 with Val Lough and Will Lindsey getting two for the Devils and Michael Laidlaw doing likewise for the Knights.
