League update 7th June
Riding Mill veteran Maurice Cheek rolled back the years to give a match winning performance when his side visited Sacriston Aces in the first division of the Northumbria Summer league. After defeating Ian McAllister he then went on to record successes over Duncan Fraser and Jon Mawson to complete a hat trick. With Mark O’Connor and Peter Stempczyk getting two each and combining to take the doubles the Mill ran out 8 – 2 winners. McAllister won both of Sacriston’s sets.
Byker turned out a strong team for their visit to Saint Chads with Dave Robson and Adam Curran in the side and both players were unbeaten in a 6 – 4 win.
Matfen A entertained Sacriston Bombers in Division two but after Alex Holliday had got them off to a good start, Dan Hutchinson, Lee Maher and Peter Smallcombe all won to put the visitors 3 – 1 up. After Holliday and Dave Swan won the doubles the home side came back into it and with Swan getting two singles and Holliday  completing a hat trick they took the match 6 – 4.
Dave Cutler and Ray Purves were both in fine form for Division three side Brinkburn, both unbeaten as they romped to a 9 – 1 victory over Matfen B.
Sacriston Comets beat Lanchester B  in a hard fought match in Division Four which saw Lanchester’s Liam Ord win all of his sets but end up on the losing side as Debbie Irwin, Matt Greenwood and Nikki Irwin all got two  in a 6 – 4 victory.
Newcomers Brandon Devils had mixed fortunes in Division five as they won their first match 8 – 2 against New Direction with Will Lindsey and Abbey Maddison both unbeaten but then lost  3 – 7 to Cramlington Lions for whom Callum French got a hat trick.
